Transition to Preschool

Today is Darby's IFSP meeting... don't ask me what that stands for, I have no idea. Since his therapy is funded and monitored by the state, he has to undergo testing every 6 months. Then we meet (regional center, us, and maybe a therapist) and discuss how darby is doing: is he meeting his goals? do we need new goals? do we have concerns that need to be addressed? etc.
Well the 2.5 year IFSP is a bigger deal than the others since this starts our transition into preschool. We meet today with the school district representative as well as the rest of the group, and its going to be a BIG group. SO many people love darby and honest to goodness just CARE what happens to him. Its great. Even though we are only allowed to have one therapist in attendance, we're sneaking in two (hehe, hey its not us. they wanted to come and make sure the school district knows how special a boy he is!). Then we have our case worker, darby, me, jason, the school district rep, AND a rep from the elementary school that they want Darby to go to. I don't think they usually have the school's rep there, but they are considering this a special case since they want him to go to the more intensive special needs school.
I'll admit, I'm pretty nervous. I usually hate these meetings no matter what. The last 4 meetings we've ever had have ended up with the state trying to get rid of our funding, and the last one I went a little bizerk at our case worker for it. I was just really tired of them finding loop holes to try to get rid of us. I felt horrible about it and apologized. These meetings are just no fun.
I'm told that today is just going to be a whole lot of talking. They are going to tell us all about the program they want Darby to go to. There shouldn't be any arguing or debating... its all just informational. Its not till his IEP in another 4 months that we might have to push for what we want.
I'm nervous also because we have to take darbs. We'll be in a small room, with 7 adults, most strangers. If you know darby, you know how much he'll just love that :0/
So we're praying for a good meeting. The next 5 months will be a process, and I'm not excited about it. Perhaps I should be... we're going to see how God works everything out and puts Darby in the perfect place. But you can pray for us! For Darby. For school. For possibly moving so we can be in the best school district for his schooling. All of that stuff.
We'll keep you updated :0)
