Holes

Today's lesson class... do not try to hang curtains when already at the edge of your sanity.

Darby had been screaming, for whatever reason he screams nowadays, and it had been going for a while. I was on 'Project clean my house and settle in the apartment' mode, and the crying was starting to fray my nerves. But low and behold, i see a curtain rod, power tool, and an opportunity to drill before it got to late at night, and apparently thought it was a good idea.

Not a good idea.

Jason was pretty oblivious to my cursing and threatening that i was laying onto the power drill and screw in the other room. He had the crying baby... that had just stopped crying... which = no one move or else. He also just couldn't hear, because our new place is just that awesomely large.

I just don't understand how you are supposed to hold the screw to the wall and drill it in without dropping it! I mean really? After NUMEROUS times of climbing up and down the step stool... looking for the screw that had fallen on the floor, again... and making sparks fly because I wasn't pushing hard enough on the nail, or something?... I was ready to call it quits. In fact, I did.

Thats when I cried out to Jason to help me. He put the baby down (and he didn't scream!! woohoo!) and came and fixed the plunders that were attacking my sanctification, in under 10 minutes. I loved him and hated him all at the same time.

The result is a beautiful canopy-like curtain that makes our bedroom look just beautiful. I'm pretty happy with it and it WILL definitely be included in the final pictures of the apartment. I just apologize now to Gunner, for the large holes i made when attempting to drill.

My lesson was learned, but the sad part is that there are so many more curtains to hang, and I still haven't figured out how its possible for the drill to connect to the nail and fit under the curtain rod attachment...? i mean, really?

You Don't Know You've Pooped...

...until you poop all the way.

Since we've already crossed the faux pas barrier of poop in this blog, why not address it again?

I'm pondering why darby poops the way he does. More often than not, he has one poop a day. That one dreaded poop... it takes him a while to work on it and then it comes and it keeps coming... inevitably it destroys the outfit he is currently wearing, and starts to soak whatever he was sitting on. I've actually starting having to carry a blanket or burpee around and place it under his butt before i sit him down, if i don't want that piece of furniture pooped on.

Its not the diapers, like many of you might think. His diapers really do a great job... its really the amount of poop. I mean, its huge. I try to encourage him to poop more often, so that it would be easier on my laundry load, and I'm sure easier on his tummy... but he just doesn't listen to me.

Maybe its a phase? We can pray that its a phase...

But i do know one thing for sure... jason and my greatest joy lately is when we hear that little volcano blow and we give each other a high-five and yell "YAY he POOPED!" Oye, the joys of being a parent.

The Perfect Ending

Today was one of those 'no good' days. Darb was a handful all day... I'm pretty sure he just cried and cried, ate, then cried and cried. I know he's been gassy lately and his naps haven't been very good, but i just haven't been able to figure out whats wrong with him. Tonight, after jason got home, it occurred to him that he might be constipated. I'm not sure why I hadn't thought about that, but i suppose that's why God blessed this family with two parents... together they can make one brain!

We learned when darb was new, that if you put something in his butt, it makes him poop. Jenn taught me that. So Jason got a q-tip, loobed it, and put it in his butt a bit. Then we decided to take his temperature rectally as well... just to make sure he didn't have a fever. While taking the temp (which takes forever!!!) darb started farting on the thermometer and Jason... i was cracking up as Jason kept making faces at the awful smell.

His temp was fine and we buckled darb into the changing table, because he's just so happy to sit there. We sat next to him at the computer and waited for the poop to come. Meanwhile, darby's favorite toy, the singing/lighting up sun from his play mat was acting like its possessed. The songs were getting funky and it wouldn't turn off... that in itself was making me laugh.

Then it came... and came and came... the poop wouldn't stop. Jason and I were laughing so hard as it was the loudest and wettest poop ever. Jason immediately got his pj's off so it wouldn't leak out and we'd have to find another pair. We waited a bit longer to change him, because he probably wasn't done yet... and we were right. The poop just kept coming and coming.

I can imagine darby was relieved, and so were we. I hope he is feeling better and maybe will have a better day tomorrow! This laughter filled evening was just what I needed :0)

So long, and thanks for all the fish...

Good news! It appears that darby's blood clot in his head has dissolved! Yay! And all the peasants rejoiced...
I do apologize that its taken forever for me to come on here and announce that. We had a great visit with Jason's Grandmother and Mom last week and then I decided to take a quick vacation to San Diego to see my family. Things are finally getting back to normal..ish.

So last week we were really expecting to hear that surgery for darby was in the immediate future. When we got to Dr. DP's office we were even prepared for all of the questions that we wanted answered... but darby got his head measured and then we talked to the doctor and he calmed our fears. He said that darby seems to be doing fine. His ventricle is enlarged still and his head did grow and jump a percentile last visit, but this week it didn't. The great news was that the blood clot seemed to be dissolved! Now we can get an MRI done again and hopefully be able to see what caused his stroke to begin with, or even a better extent of the damage done to his brain. Dr. DP wants to see him again in 6 weeks, to measure his head and look at the MRI results. As long as darby keeps doing well, and his head size doesnt jump anymore, we'll just stay status quo.

Darb also had his well baby 4 month check this week. Our pediatrician said he is looking just great! He did come in at a whopping 16lbs 8oz... almost double his birth weight and in the 80th percentile! He is quite the chunk, but absolutely adorable. He also got his next round of vaccines and is acting much better time around than the first round.

Thats it for now. Grandpa Chris and Grandma Leah will be here tomorrow, so we will spend a bit of the early afternoon with them.

Oh, and we've decided to move again... yeah i know, AGAIN. We haven't even been in this apartment for a full year, and really haven't lived in one place for more than a year since 2003? But its been really something that God worked out for us. Jason went to tell Gunner (apt. manager) that we'd be interested in a 2 bedroom in the apartments we are in now, if one ever came up. He just happened to have one opening this week! Its terrific too... big kitchen and nursery for darby!!! Yea! He gets his own room! So we are going to move in about 2 weeks, just a little less. We are literally walking our belongings across the street, so not much packing will be involved. If anyone wants to help, you are more than welcome!!! I will probably need a baby sitter or two just to keep darby happy while I do moving stuff, and maybe some burly men to help jason move the big pieces of furniture.

That's it for now :0)

PS- If you don't know what my title meant/referred to, you must go out now and rent or read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Now.... i mean it.... best book/movie ever.
